Peugeot panoramic roof & sunroof repair, Sydney

Most of the Peugeot roof work we see is the Cielo panoramic roof on a 308 or a 3008: a stone through the glass, a blind that has stopped, or a headlining that has gone dark after a storm. Peugeot's glass roofs are mostly bonded fixed panels with an electric blind underneath, opening panels on some grades, and the 207 CC, 307 CC and 308 CC add a folding hardtop with hydraulics and sensors of its own. All of it comes through our Arncliffe workshop, and the Citroën and DS cousins built on the same platforms get the same treatment.

Known faults: Peugeot glass roofs & hardtops

What goes wrong up there,
and what we do about it

A Cielo roof is a very large piece of glass (tempered, on most of them) bonded to the body, with a roller blind, a set of drains and a bonded seal doing all the work underneath. The CC hardtops swap the glass for steel panels, hydraulics and a boot full of sensors. Different hardware, the same rule: the fault is rarely where the symptom shows up.

Fault 01

Cracked or shattered Cielo panoramic roof glass

Stone strike · bonded panel

How it shows up

A chip from a stone that turns into a crack across the roof over a hot week, or a panel that lets go with a bang and drops glass onto the blind. Because the fixed Cielo roof is glued to the body rather than bolted into a frame, it looks like the whole roof is one piece and owners are sometimes told it can't be replaced. It's a separate panel, and it can.

Why it gets misread

Owners arrive having been told it's a roof-skin job, or sent to a wrecker for a whole roof. A glass-only bond-in without the headlining down can leave the blind cassette and the drain channels full of fragments and the seal edge unchecked, which is how a glass job becomes a leak six months later.

How we fix it

Headlining down, every fragment out of the blind cassette and drains, the old urethane bead cut out, the aperture cleaned and primed, the new glass bonded and cured before the car moves. Blind replaced if it's damaged, drains flow-tested, roof water-tested. Genuine glass or a good second-hand panel, side by side on the quote; insurance claims quoted with the photo set the insurer asks for.

Fault 02

Water in after rain, on a roof that doesn't even open

Seal edge & blocked drains

How it shows up

A damp patch at the rear corners of the headlining, a wet boot floor or rear footwell, fog on the inside of the glass on cold mornings, a musty smell that won't air out. The fixed roof still has drain channels and tubes at its corners, and leaf litter blocks them the same way it blocks any sunroof's. The bonded edge ages too, and once it lifts at a corner the water has a second way in.

Why it gets misread

The water surfaces a long way from the roof, so doors, tailgate seals and even the aircon get blamed and resealed first. The other standard mistake is a bead of silicone around the glass, which seals the roof's designed drainage paths shut and makes the next leak worse.

How we fix it

Controlled water testing until we see the actual entry point, and so do you, before anything is quoted. Drains cleared and flushed end to end, the glass edge resealed properly where the bond has failed, then the roof water-tested again before handover. Covered by our parts & labour warranty.

Fault 03

Blind jammed, crooked, sagging or dead

Electric roller blind

How it shows up

The blind stops partway, runs further on one side than the other, droops in the middle, or the motor whirs and nothing moves. Under a Cielo roof in January that turns the cabin into an oven, which is when most owners ring. The blind rides on small guides, cords and clips that cook under the glass for years, and the motor and switch sit at the end of that chain.

Why it gets misread

A complete roof or blind cassette often gets quoted for what turns out to be a failed guide, a jumped cord or a stripped clip. The other thing that goes wrong is forcing the blind by hand, which tears the fabric and turns a small hardware repair into a replacement.

How we fix it

We open the headlining, find the failed part and lay out the options side by side: repair the hardware, replace the blind, or remove it cleanly if you'd rather live without it. Where the blind and motor are sound, which is often, we fix the small parts and re-tension the blind rather than replacing the lot.

Fault 04

207 CC, 307 CC & 308 CC: the roof that stops halfway

Folding hardtop · hydraulics · sensors

How it shows up

The roof lifts, hesitates and stops at the same point every time, or refuses to start with a warning on the dash. The boot won't release, or the roof won't fold because the boot separator hasn't been seen. A film of oil in the boot carpet or behind the seats. Classic folding-hardtop symptoms, and the CC family has all of them.

Why it gets misread

"Needs a new pump" and "needs a whole roof module" are the two quotes owners arrive with. Far more often it's one hydraulic cylinder weeping past its seals, a roof-position microswitch or sensor, the boot-separator flap, or a cable, none of which needs the whole system replaced.

How we fix it

Diagnosis with the scan tool and by hand: which cylinder, which sensor, which stage of the cycle. Leaking rams are rebuilt in-house, sensors and switches replaced individually, the roof realigned and cycled, then water-tested before it leaves. If yours is stuck open right now, don't keep pressing the switch; call first.

Models we cover

Every Peugeot glass roof
and folding hardtop

Which roof you have depends on the year and the grade, and Peugeot has used the Cielo name for both fixed and opening versions. Text us the model and year if you're not sure; the fixes below apply either way.

308 (T7 & T9)
Hatch and Touring with the Cielo panoramic glass roof on the higher grades: a bonded fixed panel with an electric blind. Stone-cracked glass, blocked rear drains and a blind that stops halfway are the three arrivals.
3008 & 5008
Panoramic roofs across both generations, opening on some 3008 grades and fixed on most 5008s. Bigger glass, longer drains, the same blind hardware, and a sliding panel on the opening version that needs aligning and re-initialising after any glass work.
2008 & 208
Cielo fixed glass on the earlier 2008; an opening panoramic sunroof on later 208 and 2008 grades. Small cars, full-size glass, and drains that block just as readily.
508
Sedan and Fastback sunroofs and the Touring's panoramic roof (fixed or opening, depending on generation and grade): sliding-panel faults (grinding, hesitation, a panel that won't seat) on the opening roofs, alongside the usual drains and blind.
207 CC · 307 CC · 308 CC
Folding steel hardtops with hydraulic cylinders, a pump, roof-position sensors and a boot-separator flap. Weeping rams and sensors stopping the cycle are the pattern; rams are rebuilt in-house.
Citroën & DS
C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso, C3 Aircross, C5 Aircross, DS3 Crossback, DS4, DS5 (including its three-panel cockpit roof) and DS7: PSA panoramic and fixed-glass roof hardware that shares much with the Peugeots, depending on year and grade, so the faults and the fixes are familiar.

How a visit works

Four steps. No surprises.

  1. 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call 0418 200 289 with a photo of the cracked glass, the jammed blind or the wet headlining. "308 GT, panoramic roof cracked after a stone on the M5" is enough for a first read, usually the same business day.

  2. 2

    We diagnose, you see it

Controlled water testing, drain flow checks, the headlining down where the blind or glass is the problem, scan-tool diagnostics on the CC hardtops. We show you the entry point or the broken part before anything is quoted.

  3. 3

    We fix it properly

New glass bonded and cured, blinds repaired or replaced, drains cleared, rams rebuilt, sensors replaced individually: OEM or premium aftermarket parts, fitted by factory-trained technicians, with your go-ahead on the quote first.

  4. 4

We rain on it before Sydney does

No roof leaves on a promise. Drains flow-tested, seals soaked, cabin checked dry, blind and roof cycled again. The water test is why our repairs stay repaired.

A stone cracked the panoramic roof glass on my Peugeot 308. Is the panel replaceable, or is it part of the roof?

It's replaceable. The Cielo roof looks like one piece because the glass is bonded to the body rather than bolted into a frame, but it is a separate panel. We cut the old bead out, clean and prime the aperture, bond and cure the new glass, replace the blind if fragments have got into it, clear the drains and water-test before handover. Genuine glass or a good second-hand panel, laid out side by side on the quote, and insurance claims quoted with the photo set the insurer asks for. More on glass replacement.

My 3008's panoramic roof leaks but it's the fixed kind. How can a roof that doesn't open let water in?

Two ways. The bonded edge of the glass ages, and the roof still has drain channels and tubes at the corners that silt up like any sunroof's. When they block, the overflow follows the headlining and shows up at a rear pillar, in the boot or in a footwell, nowhere near the roof. We water-test to find the actual entry point, clear and flush the drains, reseal the glass edge properly where it has failed, and test again. We don't run silicone around the glass: it seals the roof's drainage shut and moves the leak somewhere worse.

Do you work on Citroën and DS roofs too?

Yes. The Citroën C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso, C3 Aircross, C5 Aircross and the DS3 Crossback, DS4, DS5 and DS7 are built on the same platforms and share much of the same panoramic and fixed-glass roof hardware, depending on year and grade, so the faults and the fixes are familiar. Text the model and the symptom to 0418 200 289 and we'll tell you what we'd check first.

My 307 CC roof stops halfway with a warning on the dash. Is it the pump?

Usually not, though it's often the first thing quoted. On the 207 CC, 307 CC and 308 CC a roof that lifts, hesitates and stops at the same point is more often a hydraulic cylinder weeping, a roof-position microswitch or sensor, or the boot-separator flap not being seen by its sensor. We diagnose with the scan tool and by hand before quoting, rebuild leaking rams in-house, and water-test the roof before it leaves. Don't keep pressing the switch in the meantime.
